About Backsync, the Company Behind SEG-B

Moving your spine one section at a time takes fine control, and it is hard to tell whether you did it, because you may find it difficult to watch your own back while moving.

Backsync is the company behind SEG-B®, a patented training board that makes that control something you can feel, see and hear. Roll through it one section at a time: feel the keys under your back, listen for clicks, and watch the blue line show which keys are down, which are up, and the order they move in.

From the people who use it

The SEG-B from Backsync has become a staple in our morning prep … It's lightweight, intuitive, and easy enough to integrate into a daily routine … players aren't skipping it because it's cumbersome, they're doing it because it fits.

The SEG-B enables us to enhance our performance program with a tailored core and spinal loading program developed for each athlete which longer-term aims to reduce lumbar stress injuries that are common in our sport.

For Practitioners

SEG-B is designed first for the practitioners who teach spinal control: physios, chiropractors, strength and conditioning coaches, and Pilates and movement studios.

“One section at a time” is hard to coach with words and hands alone. On SEG-B your client feels the keys under their back and listens for clicks, and you both see the blue line show which keys are down, which are up, and the order they move in. The board sits on the floor and needs no power.

How SEG-B Works

1. Lie back on the board. Put SEG-B on the floor and lie face-up along it, with your pelvis just off the keys.

2. Move one section at a time. Work through a slow, controlled movement, such as peeling your spine up off the board or rolling up from lying down.

3. Feel it, hear it, see it. You feel the ridged keys under your back and listen for clicks as you work through the movement. The blue line along the keys shows which keys are down, which are up, and the order they move in. Check it in a mirror, or have a coach watch.

4. Go again. Use what you felt, heard and saw to set up your next rep.

Training on your own? You don't need a coach. A click signals that a key reached the end of its travel. Use a mirror to see which keys are down, which are up, and the order they move in. Nothing to plug in and nothing to refill: the board works on its own.

If you have a health concern, check with a qualified health professional before you start.

What SEG-B Is, and Isn't

SEG-B gives you real-time feedback you can feel, hear and see. Each key is a position on the board, not a particular part of your spine: the board shows which keys are down, which are up, and the order they move in.

SEG-B itself has not yet been studied, so we don't claim any results from using it.

SEG-B is a training tool. It is not a medical device.

Questions and Answers

Why not just practice on a mat or in front of a mirror?

You can, but on your own it's hard to tell whether your back really rolled through one section at a time or moved in chunks, because you may find it difficult to watch your own back while moving. On SEG-B you feel the keys under your back and listen for clicks as you work through the movement, and the blue line shows which keys are down, which are up, and the order they move in. For a coach, that turns the cue “one section at a time” into something the client can feel, hear and see.
